Jason Blackmore is Club Captain

Jason Blackmore has been named as Club Captain for the season, replacing Simon Johnston who remains as pack leader. After the season was called void when we were second in the division and strong contenders for promotion. Once play can start the club hopes to repeat last years form. The following is from Jason on his past playing career and his hopes for the future.

I first player rugby at the age of 6 for Rhyl RFC. I played right the way through to u14s being involved in each north Wales age grade team. I then had  the chance to try my hand at rugby league with Warrington Wolves for 2 years, before returning to the Rhyl youth set up where we won many trophies over a period of seasons.

I was involved in the early days at RGC, and made my Rhyl debut at the age of 18, under a certain Jimmy Waring (current head coach).  I headed back to England this time with Widnes Vikings, where I played from the 18s to reserve level. During these times I represented Wales Rugby League on a number of occasions at 16s, 18s and students.

Unfortunately I then picked up a nasty injury playing against Australia which ruled me out of the game for 2 years before returning back to my beloved Rhyl RFC, where my family has strong connections with the club.. My dad was coach here for many years and is still regarded as the best coach Rhyl has ever had. My big brother Dale who now coaches the forwards holds the record number of years as captain here at Rhyl. This is something i intend to take off him. We now have the best coaching team here for years along with a very able and young team my aim is to lead us back to the top of North Wales rugby.
