Rhyl RFC came out winners by 50 - 19 in the first local derby of the season against Abergele. In the high scoring game eleven try’s were scored , eight of them by Rhyl. Rhyl set of at a blistering pace with the first three try’s coming in the first ten minutes. A fourth try by Jason Blackmore before half time secured the bonus point. Rhyl did not have it all their own way as they were pinned in the corner defending their own line and pressure told as Abergele scored a converted try to make the score 26-7 at half time. The second half continued in the same way with Rhyl centre Stu Fell-Crook crossing for his third try. Winger Reeve Wright claimed his second with Richie Williams and Lock Simon Roberts scoring one each. Richie Williams converted 5 of his 8 attempts. Abergele claimed two more try’s and the game was played with all the effort you would expect from a local derby. Rhyl turned a youth team out for the first time in two years with a trip to play an experienced Ruthin youth team. Coach Angus Garbutt took this young team made up totally of last years u16s team knowing the challenge that awaited them . They lost 51-0 but the enthusiasm to play is there and the future looks more promising for the youth over the next couple of years.
