Colwyn Bay 10 Rhyl & District 14

The Dragons made the short trip down the coast on Saturday and came back with a hard fought victory after an outstanding  display of character and  guts.  Due to injury's and unavailability's Rhyl had to opt for uncontested scrums from the start which meant that under current rules they had to play with a back short all game however the numerical disadvantage was never evident as the Dragons superb defense dominated the game.  Rhyl dominated the opening exchanges with some cutting back play and soon established a nine point lead after three penalty's from  centre Richie Williams who had an outstanding game throughout. The home side came more into the game as the half wore on and a yellow card for the away side saw the numbers eventually tell with Bay scoring an unconverted try to leave the half time score at 9 points to 5.

Rhyl increased their lead early in the second half following  a good passage of play with Damion price going over in the corner.  The dragons then had to endure relentless pressure on their line with the Bay being held up three times while over the try line.  Rhyls defense was superb with every man putting their bodies on the line led by the outstanding Simon Johnston and Neil Hodgkinson. Despite Colwyn bay trying everything they were restricted to one further score with Rhyl hanging on for a well deserved four points.

Rhyls coaching team were full of praise for the outstanding effort put in by all and the players will enjoy a well deserved free Saturday next weekend.

The Dragons next fixture is away at Nant Conwy on the 27th of October.
