Rhyl 12 Mold 14

In the only match to survive the weather in all three North Wales leagues, Rhyl had to settle for a loosing bonus point after coming up short against promotion rivals Mold. The match started with the home team playing into the gale and unsurprisingly spent the first quarter of the game camped in their own 22. Despite some resolute defence, a feature of the game from both teams, it was inevitable that Mold finally found a way through to score a converted try. As the half wore on however, some good work by Rhyls pack worked the Dragons back up the pitch and after some good phases of play, Full back Tom Jones went over under the posts for a try converted by Richie Williams to leave the half time score at 7 points all.

Hopes were high for the second half as Rhyl, with the gale now at their backs and the conditions deteriorating should have looked to press on but a combination of some poor discipline and tactical choices enable Mold to score a second converted try. Despite again forcing their way back into the game to score a second unconverted try Rhyl could not find a way past Molds defence and a late period of home pressure eventually ended by a knock on and the final Whistle.

Whilst Rhyls coaching team were disappointed by not taking the chance to put some clear water between themselves and the chasing pack, Rhyls destiny for promotion is still in their own hands and a game against bottom side Llanidloes in two weeks should be an ideal opportunity to get back on track.
