The Dragons ended 2019 at the top of Division 2 North after completing a third win of the season over local rivals Abergele. Rhyl had already beaten Gele at home in both league and cup and in truth never looked like loosing that record in a scrappy game at Pentre Mawr. The Dragons dominated the first period and were soon leading following try's from the outstanding James Fisher Jones, converted by Richie Williams and a well finished effort from winger Reeve Wright. Gele did reply with a try following a quickly taken penalty however further scores from Jason Blackmore and a superb long range effort from wing Will Morris ensured a half time score of 24 points to 5 and the bonus point secured.
The second half saw just the one score, a penalty try awarded to Gele after an indiscretion from Rhyl. Rhyl had clearly done what was needed and ended the game in control when the referee had to stop the game before the last play due to a medical issue with an Abergele player.
Whilst this was not Rhyls best performance of the year, Head Coach Jimmy Waring will be happy with the bonus point win and remaining top of the table as he prepares for the visit of Welshpool next Saturday to Tynewydd Road.
