Denbigh 56 Rhyl 9
Rhyls unbeaten run came to an abrupt end on Saturday with a heavy defeat to runaway league leaders Denbigh. The final score line however, was a little harsh on the young Dragons side who were competitive throughout and matched the home sides heavier and more experienced pack all afternoon. The home side took an early lead with two scores through a well organised and pacy back line. Rhyl recovered well however and some good periods of pressure were rewarded with a succession of penalty's from the boot of Richie Williams to keep the scoreboard ticking over and leave the dragons still in the contest at half time. The second half continued in much the same way as the first and as the dragons began to tire Denbigh's backs took full advantage to run in several further scores. Rhyl to their credit battled well and finished the game strongly with forwards Tom Williams and George Cliff impressing along with the half back combination of Tom Jones and Jason Blackmore. Rhyl play the same opposition in the North Wales cup this weekend in another stern test but one which can only improve this young squad further.
