Rhyl lost their home unbeaten record and ended a 9 game unbeaten run when they went down 10-17 to top of the table COBRA. Cobra took a 7 point lead early in the game when a defensive error let them through for a try under the posts. Playing in to a strong wind , Rhyl were finding it difficult to maintain pressure as Cobra kicked long with the advantage of the wind. Eventually winger Reeve Wright went over in the corner for the first of his try’s . Richie Williams narrowly missed the conversion as the wind took the ball across in front of the posts. Cobra added a penalty to lead 10-5 at the break. With the wind behind them Rhyl spent most of the second half in the cobra half but the defence held out until Reeve Wright went on one of his trademark runs to touchdown in the corner. With the unsuccessful conversion the score remained at 10-10. Late in the game Cobra made their way into the Rhyl 22 and managed to find a gap to run through for a converted try. With only minutes left Rhyl pushed for the try but gave away a penalty just yards from the try line which Cobra were relieved to get the ball into touch to end the game. The young Rhyl side had given their all in this game which must rate as one of the performances of the season. Some immense tackling from all to stop Cobra advancing. Cobra have only been beaten once in the league this season and must be relieved with the win today which didn’t look as if it could be achieved with five minutes left in the game . Rhyl have no game next Saturday with the next scheduled game at home to Welshpool in two weeks. The close game today against the table topping team, will mean that other teams will not relish games at Tynewydd Field
