Rhyl welcomed their old rivals Abergele to Tynewydd Field on a sunny saturday. A large crowd gathered to support the teams. Teams had a guard of honour from rhyl junior teams which added to the atmosphere .
From the very start of the game Rhyl took control and attacked the Abergele line. Paddy Nelson dived over for a try on his debut for the senior team. With Rhyl playing across the back line Harrison Evans ran in for his try. Kai Bedemann scored the try of the match with Tom Jones running from the half way line past two defenders before passing to Kai to run in . With captain Jason Blackmore converting all three trys . Rhyl led 21-0 at the break.
The second half continued with Abergele unable to cope with Rhyls running game, winger Callum Gardner crossed for his debut try for the seniors. Tom Williams ran in from 30 metres out for his try with Thomas Jones converting on his debut.
With four debut trys for the senior squad and a debut conversion the future of Rhyls young squad looks promising. Coach Dale Blackmore was pleased with the display as Rhyl won 33-0.
The whole of Rhyl Rugby Club are keen for the start of the new season in September which should be the first full league programme since the start of the pandemic.
