Rhyl and District 41-0 Abergele

RHYL and District marked their first ever game at Tynewydd with a thumping 41-0 bonus point victory over derby rivals Abergele.

A large crowd descended on their new base for the WRU National League Division Two North clash, with the home side turning in a sensational attacking display to emerge with bragging rights against the basement dwellers.

The result leaves Seb Vidal’s side in fourth position in the standings with games in hand on the teams above them, and they will play the majority of their remaining league games on home soil after being forced to play away due to the construction of the impressive community hub.

Cal Morris was one of the standout performers on the day and marked the occasion with two tries that played a huge part in their overall triumph, with James Fisher-Jones, Ian Marshall, Simon Johnson and Richie Williams also crossing the white wash during the rout.

Williams also added to the tally with four successful conversions and a penalty to round off the scoring.

There was a special treat for those attending the historic first fixture at Tynewydd, with the Dragons’ U12 and U13 sides competing against each other in a specially arranged friendly prior to the senior encounter.

Club representative Brian Hill, said: “The size of the crowd was above all expectations and credit must go to the bar staff who coped under immense pressure.

There are a few things that still need sorting out, but everyone was praising this fantastic facility. The future is looking good for the team and Rhyl itself.”

Next up for the Dragons is a home tie against Llanidloes this Saturday.
