The Dragons continued their push for promotion at Tynewydd Road on Saturday in front of a large crowd on Colin Hall Snrs Presidents day with a hard fought win against a Tenacious and capable Nant side. The opening exchanges were equal, with both sides making inroads into the opposition half however after a period on the Nant line, number 8 Tom Williams went over for a try converted by Richie Williams. A second soon followed following some good phases of play as centre Jason Blackmore went over in the corner. The Conwy valley side then scored an unconverted long range score to leave the half time score at 12 points to 5 to Rhyl.
The second period could not have started in worse fashion for Rhyl as Nant score a converted try to level the scores soon after the start however Rhyl then showed why they are top of the table with a mature patient performance to gradually over come the visitors with a combination of hard work and good game management. Tom Williams capped a fine performance by scoring his second and after Coach Jimmy Waring had made good use of the bench, Replacement James Farrell went over for the bonus point score.
With Mold and Wrexham sharing the points in the other big fixture of the day, Rhyl now have a 10 point cushion at the top with a trip to Newtown next week the next hurdle for Jimmy Warings side.
