Rhyl made the long journey to Llanidloes and after being held up in traffic the KO was delayed. Without the usual warm up period Rhyl were looking unprepared for this physical encounter. With Rhyl’s Dru Roberts and a Llanidloes player receiving red cards for fighting after ten minutes the game was constantly slowed down by constant stoppages for penalties. Rhyl failed to take advantage when Llanidloes were reduced to 13 players for a ten minute spell. Four penalty conversions by Llanidloes gave the score of 12-0 at half time. Llanidloes were awarded a penalty try early in the second half after several infringements in a scrum close to the line.a further penalty conversion brought the score to 22-0 with all points coming from penalties.Rhyl were reduced to 13 players when winger Reeve Wright was sent off for verbal abuse of the referee . This weakened the tiring Rhyl side who conceded two try’s , one which was converted, to give the 34-0 final score line. Rhyl need to train hard this week before another long trip to Newtown next Saturday. The youth team travelled to Colwyn Bay and were beaten 62-12. The young side have taken a battering over the last three weeks and with no game next Saturday they will be able to recover from their many injuries. The second team traveled to Bala with weakened team and short of numbers . With early injuries reducing them even more they were beaten 105-0. Altogether a bad weekend for the Rugby club. Plenty of work needed by all to lift the spirits of all teams.
