Rhyl 2nd team entertained the reformed Llangollen RFC in a friendly at Tynewydd Field, and it was a game of two halves. Rhyl’s much improved team struggled to penetrate the Llangollen defences and took the lead by a Owen Jones penalty. Llangollen immediate response was to press straight from the restart and were rewarded with an unconverted try to take the lead. The game continued with both teams unable to to get through some strong defensive play by both teams. Rhyl finally crossing the white wash after some quick play by Owen Jones and Haydn Taylor touching down. Jones conversion making it 10-5 .
Llangollen regained the lead with a converted try but that was the last time they added to their score. Rhyl scored four more try’s through George Owen, Simon Cheetham . Gaz Pierce and Chris Fellcrook with Owen Jones claiming two more conversions for Rhyl to win 34-12.
It was a closer game than the score line depicts. I am sure that Llangollen will further improve and get back to their rightful place in a North Wales League.
Next up for Rhyl 2nds is a league fixture away at Bethesda next Saturday .
