Rhyl got off to a near perfect start by opening the scoring inside two minutes, when Richie Williams took a quick tap penalty and sprinted over the line from 30 yards out. Mold then settled and after 20 minutes the score was level when they cut through the Rhyl rearguard with ease. Rhyl went back into the lead with a successful penalty from William only for Mold to touchdown again to go back into the lead. As the game ebbed and flowed, Williams put Rhyl back in front 11.10 at the break with another successful penalty. Both teams had dominant periods in the second half, but a few dropped passes and strong defensive displays made clear scores hard to come by. With 15 minutes to go Mold went back into the lead with a converted try under the posts . Rhyl finished the stronger and Jack Hughes ran in a deserved try and Williams added the extra points to give a hard fought victory, without getting carried away this win will spread much needed confidence in the Rhyl camp and give something to build on.
