Nant Conwy 2nd XV 19 Rhyl 17

The Dragons made the short journey to the Conwy valley to take on Nant Conwy in what turned out to be a classic example of a game of two halves. The game was a mirror image of the reverse fixture at the Waen with a closely fought battle between the teams. After an evenly matched start played in the centre of the pitch, Rhyls heavier pack began to make inroads into a solid Nant defence and after some good driving phases, centre Richie Williams went over under the posts for a try which he then converted. Nant were struggling to make any headway against a well organised Rhyl defence and after some turn over ball, flanker Tom Williams went over for the away sides second try, again converted by Williams. A penalty for the visitors made the half time score 17 points to nil with the Dragons looking comfortable.

After the break however Nant began to up the tempo and force mistakes from a tiring Rhyl Side. After 75 minutes, a third Nant score scored through their pacey back line looked to have secured the win for the home team, however the Dragons came back for one last trip up the pitch and won a penalty wide out on the Nant 22. Centre Ritchie Williams again stepped up to take on the responsibility but saw his kick sail just wide of the upright.

Rhyl now travel to Cobra next Saturday before completing their league season at home to Dolgellau on the 4th of May. The Dragons round off the season with a cup final in the North Wales plate on the 12th of May.
