Message from the Chaplain

Message from the Chaplain.

Do I miss standing on the touchline on a freezing February afternoon, ankle deep in mud with a 50 mph wind driving sleet into my face?  You bet I do, but not as much as the friendship and fellowship of the rugby club family.  It’s time like this that make you realise that human beings are designed to be together.  So for those of you who are isolated, worried, separated or sick how can we seek to be positive at a time like this?  Here are a few simple thoughts.

● Savour the small things.  Small can be beautiful.  The smell of roasted coffee, the feel of water on your back in the shower, the unexpected smile of a stranger.  Each day presents us with the opportunity to savour the small pleasures that our bust lives frequently overlook.
● Strengthen your connections.  We may not be able to meet each other face to face but social media can be a real gift in a time of isolation.  I may not be seeing my granddaughter for a while but I can watch her playing on a video call.  So make those calls you have been promising you would make, even the difficult ones.
● Look for the good in others.  Times like this often bring out the best in human nature.  So rather than focus on people fighting for toilet paper in the supermarket focus on the those two young people in Australia who loaded up a cart full of toilet rolls and took them around to vulnerable people in their community.
● Look for the good in yourself.  Within  each of us is a well of goodness looking to bring refreshment  and comfort to others.  Never underestimate the power you have to make a difference especially through small acts of kindness.

Stay safe.
