Rhyl 22 Shotton 15

Rhyl enjoyed a bonus point win in a hard fought and tense win in the first league game played since March last year. The home side started slowly against a fired up Shotton side and, despite enjoying the majority of possession and territory, soon found themselves 12 points down after a couple of breakaway tries from the visitors. Towards the end of the half, full back Ash Jones picked up a loose ball from a Shotton error and ran in for a score that seemed to settle the home side nerves in front of another big crowd.

The second half began much more positively for the Dragons, and after another period of pressure on the visitors line, prop Ryan Jones rumbled over for a score converted by Richie Williams. Rhyls set piece play was now securing ample possession and despite Shotton briefly retaking the lead with a penalty, the Dragons dominance grew as the match progressed as firstly centre Mark Davies, and then outside half Richie Williams with a fine individual score secured the win.

Whilst Head coach Seb Vidal and his team will have been please with the bonus point win, he will have seen much to work on in training with the squad this week prior to the Dragons next game away at Bangor on the 27th of November.
