Colwyn Bay 0-12 Rhyl

Rhyl traveled the short distance to play Colwyn Bay to start the new season. In the first half both sides showed strong defensive to prevent any score . Numerous errors in handling by both side frustratingly put a stop to a flowing game. Rhyl’s forwards were powerful in the scrum winning many against the head.
The second half continued as the first until winger Reeve Wright crossed the line to score his first try of this years campaign. With just the five points in it the Bay pushed for a score but the Rhyl defence held firm. Bay’s chance for a score came with a penalty which frustratingly hit the post and bounced back in to play. The turning point in the game came when a Bay player was given a red card for a serious indiscretion. Eventually with the extra man Rhyl put pressure on the tiring Bay defence as full back Tom Jones found a gap and off loaded the ball to hooker Ethan Woodfine who crossed for the try. Converted by Ian Marshall the 12 point gap was enough for Rhyl to take the win.
Plenty of positives for coach Jim Waring and his team to take into next weeks home game against local rivals Abergele.
