Benllech v Rhyl match report.

Benllech 12- 36 Rhyl.

Rhyl travelled to Amlwch - the new Benllech ground.  Unfortunately it was a very narrow school pitch which didn’t allow Rhyl’s very quick backs to get much possesion out wide; this suited the large Benllech pack.  Again, as in the past it took Rhyl 30 minutes to engage in the pre match plan and keep the ball away from Benllech’s big heavy pack.  Some great tactical kicking from new signing Ben Syme started to put the home team under pressure resulting in another new signing Si Davies scoring a well deserved try converted by Syme.  5 minutes later Syme scored and converted a great individual try; straight from the kick off  Joe Warhurst scored another unconverted try and Rhyl went into the break 19-0 up.

Rhyl opened the second half with another try from pace man young Reeve Wright. To be fair to Benllech they kept coming at Rhyl and scored a well deserved but unconverted try by center Mark Ward.   Rhyl hit back with another Reeve right try; Benllech just couldn’t cope with his pace.  Once again Benllech responded with a converted try by Paul Williams.  In the last minute of the game Rhyl’s other young wing Rhys Beele scored in the corner converted by Syme; not the prettiest of games but another win and a well needed bonus point.  Man of the match is shared by new signings Ben Syme and returning ex Rhyl player Simon Davies.  With 8 players recovering from injury and the new signings coming in the future looks a little brighter for the rest of the season.
