RHYL AND DISTRICT RFC 1st XV 7 - 37 DOLGELLAU RFC 1st XV

In a fiercely competitive and hard fought game at the Waen, Rhyl's young squad matched the league leaders for large periods of the game and some late scores by a well drilled and physical Dolgellau side gave the final score line a flattering look.

The visitors started well and dominated the first quarter but with Rhyl's defence well organised and committed they only had an early penalty to show for their efforts.  Rhyl then started to come into the game more strongly and were able to put the visitors under pressure.  Only some needless penalties and wrong options let Dolgellau back into the Rhyl Half and a late try meant a half time score of 8-0 to the visitors.

Rhyl started the second half well, however,  as the half wore on Rhyl's impressive defensive efforts began to tell and the visitors started to dominate territory resulting in several late scores. Rhyl's commitment however was total to the final whistle and after some excellent phase work centre Jack Hughes went over for a consolation try, which was scant reward for what was an excellent effort by Rhyl's young side and a performance which shows great promise as we enter the second half of the season.
