Start young at Rugby

Rhyl Rugby Club Mini Dragons, were lucky enough to be invited to the Pre Match Engagement at RGC ground at Erias Park on Saturday 30th December. This great opportunity for the children, who are between 4 and 6 years old, was made possible by Welsh Rugby Union Regional Development Officers Alan James  and Rachel Taylor, Coaches and RGC Players and held in ‘The Barn’ located behind the stadium.

This Pre Match Engagement, saw the Children, put through their paces, honing the skills they have already learned and learning new skills during  age related and rugby orientated games, deigned to challenge and develop each player. These games, made use of the inflatable cage, obstacle courses and teamwork exercises.

The second phase of the engagement, was to provide RGC and Bridgend Ravens with a Guard of Honour as the two teams ran out onto the pitch, the children were then invited to watch the match, that turned out to be a highly contested great game of rugby.

The Third and Final Phase of the Engagement, saw the children, take part in a parade around the pitch in front of all the spectators at half time.

All the children loved the experience and we had some very positive feedback from the parents, the development officers delivered a fantastic session for the children and this was a fantastic opportunity for them.

Anyone interested in joining the Mini Dragons, should attend the training sessions which are held in the gym at Christ Church Primary School, Fforddlas in Rhyl on a Wednesday evening between 6 and 7pm
