RHYL RUGBY CLUB AUTUMN PROJECT

RHYL RUGBY CLUB AUTUMN PROJECT

After delivering a highly successful 6 week summer engagement project introducing Rugby to the children of Rhyl East, Rhyl Rugby Club wereonce again approached by North Wales Police to deliver a similar format during the October half term holiday for 2 days.

Having used Ysgol Brynheddyd as the venue for the summer event it was decided to broaden the catchment area so with the willing support of the R.N.L.I these sessions were held on the beach at Rhyl Lifeboat station.

Yet again the W.R.U fully supported both sessions, by supplying the inflatable cage….

Over the 2 days, 4 club coaches delivered sessions to 30 children of varying ages and abilities with the emphasis being fun, learning and inclusion.

The sessions involved a range of skills, understanding and adapted games which the children participated fully in. They found these challenging, enjoyable, fun and educational. Half a dozen of the children expressed an interest in joining the club on a permanent basis !!!

Alongside the rugby sessions R.N.L.I showed the children around the lifeboat and the station whilst advising on safety at sea.

North Wales Police also provided a van and equipment to entertain and educate.

With both projects being a great success there are future plans being made to continue these events at various locations throughout the Rhyl District during the school holidays. Working alongside North Wales Police, TheW.R.U and now the R.N.L.I not only are we strengthening links within the community we are encouraging more and more children to take up rugby as a lifestyle choice.
