COBRA 24-15 RHYL

RHYL and District finished off their WRU National League Division Two North away fixtures with a 24-15 defeat at newly crowned champions COBRA.

The Dragons were unable to recover from a poor start against the promoted side, and they head into their final game next Saturday at home to Dolgellau knowing a win would see them clinch fourth spot. The visitors struggled in the early exchanges and were ruthlessly punished, seeing them fall to a 17-point deficit at the end of the first period in difficult conditions.

After the break saw the away side come out with a renewed sense of purpose, and they were rewarded for their improved possession when two tries in quick succession from in-form winger Reeve Wright and Tom Jones.

One successful conversion from Richie Williams brought the Dragons back to within five, and the skipper despatched a penalty soon after to reduce the arrears further heading into the closing stages.

The away side were unable to add to their tally during a dominant spell, and a converted score from the hosts late on secured their victory.

Following their final league outing next weekend Seb Vidal’s side take on Welshpool in the North Wales Intermediate Cup final at the home of Ruthin on May 12, and the Dragons’ youth side also have the chance to secure some silverware when they test their skills against Llangefni on the North Wales Youth Bowl on May 5.
